The Man In The Mirror
Like most of you, I grew up listening to Michael Jackson's Music-- I guess we all grew up with the Jacksons in a way, huh? And as I've been watching the Media's latest obsessive ranting over a celebrity death, I couldn't help but reflect on this musical genius. (I did see the Jackson Biography which lead me to go over some lyrics of Beat-It, Billie-Jean, Bad, and even Thriller.) And that was when I realized "No wonder the world saw the "Grown Up" MJ as a bit of a weirdo. He never had a childhood, He had a dysfunctional family (Okay, who doesnt), he was a child celebrity(and we know how most of them end up), and he was born with a gift of rhythm, and I strongly suspect-- a Republican.
But as I went over some of these lyrics, I went over some of the Jackson 5 lyrics as well and I got to thinking.... with titles like; Can I See You in the Morning, Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough, Make Tonight All Mine.... (And I'm not making this one up) How Funky Is Your Chicken.... is it any wonder that He had a bumpy childhood and probably confusing adolescence. You could sing ABC and Do-Re-Me until your blue in the face, but when your 9-12 and singing "How Funky Is Your Chicken", you would probly just be dying to "Beat-it" in order to survive mentally.

Oooops--! I almost forgot to add one of his lesser known lyrics:

"Childhood"
Written and Composed by Michael Jackson.
Have you seen my Childhood?
I'm searching for the world that I come from
'Cause I've been looking around
In the lost and found of my heart...
No one understands me
They view it as such strange eccentricities...
'Cause I keep kidding around
Like a child, but pardon me...
People say I'm not okay
'Cause I love such elementary things...
It's been my fate to compensate,
for the Childhood
I've never known...
Have you seen my Childhood?
I'm searching for that wonder in my youth
Like pirates in adventurous dreams,
Of conquest and kings on the throne...
Before you judge me, try hard to love me,
Look within your heart then ask,
Have you seen my Childhood?
People say I'm strange that way
'Cause I love such elementary things,
It's been my fate to compensate,
for the Childhood I've never known...
Have you seen my Childhood?
I'm searching for that wonder in my youth
Like fantastical stories to share
The dreams I would dare, watch me fly...
Before you judge me, try hard to love me.
The painful youth I've had
Have you seen my Childhood....

Re: The Man In The Mirror
Excellent Observation TR! And he also had a Disorder. I looked up Vitligo and it not only effects skin coloring but the graying of the hair and the lining that protects the eyes, Nose, & lower extremities. The lining in those areas degenerate and break down. And since I understand the break down of lower extremities, I discovered early that it was easier to dance backwards (Like Jackson's Moonwalk) than it was to dance forward-- because to move backward, you have to pull in your butt-cheeks.Then, you become sensitive to light and from there, the melacytes that serve as the protective covering to your neurons can be effected as well. So, with all considered, I believe MJ did pretty good. And I LOVED those lyrics you posted!!!
